2010 Save the Waves Film Festival A Success

November 15, 2010 - On Friday night the Victoria Theatre was the scene of the second annual Save The Waves Film Festival in the heart of San Francisco’s teeming Mission District. The evening began with local musical heroes My Peoples playing a full set for the packed house. Art prints by Mike Houston were projected onto the big screen with music before the films.

Save The Waves Film Festival integrates coastal conservation, ocean adventure, surfing, activism and art. The film festival and celebration featured a collection of short and feature length films, music, an art exhibit, and a party fundraiser to benefit the non-profit programs of Save The Waves Coalition.

Save The Waves Film Festival featured the world premieres of two short films: “Chasing the Swell” by Sachi Cunningham of the LA Times, and “Buy Local Surf Global” by Santa Cruz youth leader Kyle Thiermann. The festival also featured the US premiere of “Transparent Sea Voyage” by Dave Rastovich.

Three hardworking, inspiring filmmakers were honored with awards at Save The Waves Film Festival: Chilean filmmaker Angel Marin won the “Fuerza Chile Award” for his leadership and creativity in films. Sachi Cunningham received the “Awesomest Filmmaker Award” for her body of eco-journalistic-surf-documentaries. And Kyle Thiermann won the “Epic Grommet Activist Award” for his inspiring short films. The film intermission also featured an uplifting acoustic set by Avasa & Matty Love.

Before closing the late night with a special screening of “180 South,” the festival screened a brand-new short film by Angel Marin that documents the new whale mural painted by Chris Del Moro for the Sunset Cooperative Nursery School at Ocean Beach.

Is Manny Pacquiao the Best Fighter of All Time?

You don't need a boxing promoter to tell you that Manny Pacquiao could be one of the best fighters of all time.
Most fans and analysts commonly list (in no particular order) Joe Louis, Henry Armstrong, Jack Johnson, Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson to be among the Top 10 boxers of all time. But pound-for-pound (arguably the most-used term when describing Pacquiao), Pacman may someday soon be considered the all-time greatest boxer to ever lace up the gloves.
Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs) earned his eighth world title in eight weight classes. He's beaten opponents in weight classes from 106 pounds to 165 pounds. He's taken down Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey and Ricky Hatton and has his sights set on Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
"Ray Leonard is a great friend of mine and he was a great fighter, but he doesn’t compare to Manny Pacquiao, in my opinion," Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum told Yahoo Sports. "Ray had great, great skills, great heart, and he was a tremendous fighter, but he didn’t have the same type of extraordinary skills that Pacquiao has.

"Julio Cesar Chavez was a great, great fighter," Arum added. "Sitting in front of me was a guy a lot of people say is the greatest fighter they’ve ever seen, Roberto Duran. These guys are truly great fighters, but they do not compare to Manny Pacquiao, in my opinion."

Who's Your Favorite Victoria's Secret Model?

Making a music video these days is very expensive and getting a Victoria's Secret Model to be in our video is close to impossible unless of course you're Kanye West. But somehow in some weird perfect way, while browsing through a bunch of online videos and listening to our song, "Tell Me" from our Back2Roots EP, we were able to make this collage of clips that surprisingly ended up going well to the song.

So who's your favorite Victoria's Secret Model?
Mike D. says "Alessandra Ambrosio"

Watch the video below and let us know who your favorite Victoria's Secret Model is.
